ABSTRACT

Mathematics is a science that is related to all activity and it is a basic of all education. On the other hand, there are a lot of students still  assume that  mathematics as a boring subject and some of them got low marks on this subject. Based  on this problem, its need to develop the mindset of students about  mathematics  by using some of learning model. One of learning models is discovery learning where the mindset of students could be developed and the students have a motivation to get high mark. In this research, discovery-learning model was applied to the first grade students at maintenance engineering program. Discovery learning was used on basic mathematics course because the students of this subject less attractive on this course. The aim of this research was to learn the level of students' ability to solve any mathematics problem through scoring system by applying discovery learning as a learning model. As a result of this research, the percentage of students’ marks was increasing start from third to sixth quiz, when compare to the first quiz at the beginning of the meeting. In addition the percentage of students’ marks was increased more than 65% i.e 75.90%.
