ABSTRACT
On
Cathkin Braes will be built windfarm(s) to assess the wind potential and create
a possible community owned windfarm in this area. The projects are causing many
conflicts and need to be solved before these projects operated. Matrix
method was using in this EIA assessment. The biggest possible impacts and the
important of the possible impacts for wind farm project were in the biological
conditions (micro fauna, land animals and plants), physical and chemical
conditions (soils) and cultural factors (health and safety). The possible impacts for environmental conditions
of the mountain bike trails project based on Leopold matrix and impact
assessment were floods, plants, land animals and micro fauna; these impacts
could be dilated if no prevention actions before, during and after the
projects. Based on the baseline, impact assessment and impact
evaluation/analysis by using Leopold matrix, the project which had the possible
impacts for environment is wind farm project. Both of the projects should be
supported by community because it has benefits from community itself. However,
the current setting of the site is the particular factors relevant to the site
and the mitigation measures could be done and designed to prevent, reduce or
offset significant adverse impacts and the effectiveness.
